Optimization the AntiVirus

Many People using antivirus on their computer, usually after install it they just leave it with default configuration and just update the virus database and ignoring for advance configuration. In many case it can make our computer work slowly.
The default configuration isn't mean the best configuration for our computer, our computer will work slowly if the configuration isn't match with our computer hardware, scanning process will make computer very slowly. How to make antivirus run effectively and efficiently? Here some tips that we can do:
For Offline User
If our computer is not connected to internet or rarely
  • Turn off Auto Update Facility, update can be done manually by download virus database while our computer connected to internet only.
  • If AntiVirus has Anti Spyware or/and Email Scanner on it, we can turn it off to reduce consume of resource memory and CPU.
  • Download for virus definition (update) at least 1 times a week. Daily is better.
For Online User
If our computer is always connected to internet
  • Turn on Auto Update, 1 times a day is quite enough, but more often is better.
  • If there is Anti Spyware or/and Email Scanner it better to be activated, except you are using another program.
Scanning Virus Process
Scanning process usually take for a long time, it even take for hours if we have a lot of file. To make this effectively and efficiently we can do this thing;
  • Disable Archive file scanner option (convert file like zip, rar, cab, etc) except we have more time to scan this file, even there is a virus inside, this file it still safe until we execute the file.
  • Set our antivirus to not delete/heal/remove the file automatically, it better if we chose quarantine or rename it first, except we sure the file is a virus.
  • If there is option like smart extension scan or any option like it, it better to be enabled , scanning process will take more shortly.
  • In Scheduler Scan section ensure the time set when our computer is not used, and scanning process can be done manually, because sometimes we don't know the antivirus is scanning and take for a long time. So it can make our computer work slowly.
  • While scanning we should not running other program especially the program which consume more memory. We also can turn off our screensaver.
General Optimization
  • Check the virus vault, if it full delete the file (ensure the file deleted is virus). If there is file with same name and same size, it probably is a virus, we can delete it or leave one.
  • Enable the Report Facility, and save the report to easy find folder.
  • Always enable Resident Shield/Guard, because this is file which always monitoring our file.
  • If not necessary avoid to use more than 1 antivirus on your computer at the same time.
